Modern Poetry Edition #64 {Blame It On The Rain | Rain #1} Guest Editor: Traci

First, I was sickened by the apathy of the voters. Then I was immediately
cheered by the wisdom of Josef Stalin, who said “it doesn't matter who votes,
what matters is who counts the votes.” Wait a minute, I thought, it is I who
counts the votes. So I matter! You, lowly voter, do not matter. Jo-Sta said it,
not me.

Anywayz... I counted up the votes and though I wanted to declare victory for Van
Morrison's rendition of Shenandoah (which wasn't on the ballot), I counted them
correctly (this time) and the award deservedly is soon to be swaddled in purple.
P.R. Nelson in the house!

Prince now joins Van The Man and Paul Simon as a mulitple MPulitzer winner:
Van and Paul have 4 prizes (Art Garfunkel shares two of Paul's) and Prince
Rogers Nelson has two plus a writing credit on The Time's winner with "Gigolos
Get Lonely Too." Boy, do we ;-)

Prince, you are now welcome to join Van and Paul in the exclusive lounge area
reserved for multiple winners and Modern Poetry muckety-mucks. We're glad to
have you.

That's it. Look for more soon.  You anti-Poetic bastards...

Please vote. No, really. Pleeeeease....

---------------------------------------------

the bennett girls are in. hope and BWF are in. i am in. jay and sledge
are in. simon and randy are in.

Where are the rest of you? Pick one already. Prize to the voter who votes
who I deem "most unlikely to vote."

but you don't really have to look at them. like elections for the gov't,
neither knowledge nor thought is required of voters.

Traci is not perfect after all. She forgot to mention in her intro
the following item about the Pacman "making it rain." Somehow
I forgot too, but when you scan the news and find "strip club
called Minxx" "$81,000" and "shooting" and the whole thing
was started by "making it rain," you got to reference it.

The Cost Of Making It Rain: Pacman Jones Suspended)
April 11th, 2007 | Author: A-Plus
http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/news/id.5114/title.the-cost-of-making-it-rain-pacman-jones-suspended

Making it rain is going to cost Tennessee Titan Adam “Pacman” Jones more than a million dollars next season.

Jones’ off the field troubles culminated in an incident during NBA All Star Weekend this February in Las Vegas . At a local strip club, Jones allegedly threw $81,000 at the club which ultimately led to a shooting which left one man paralyzed.

---------------------------------------------

What?!?  I AM TOO perfect!!! (Are Not!) AM TOO!!
:-)  I do hate I missed that though.

---------------------------------------------

Really! Ya'll--  I expected more support from you peeps than this!!
9 votes! ?? What? This is hurting my self esteem!!!  I might have to
have some therapy!

Vote peoples. It has been 30 days and only 9 votes are in. It's election season, for cryin' out loud.

And now with no further doo-doo, Traci is back in as
guest editor for the second time.  {No further doo-doo!
Ha!  I kill me sometimes!}  Remember the fine Superman
edition?  Sure you do. (MP #58)  Rookies, take note:

1-She starts with "Welcome in..."  SOLID
2-She explains the edition and uses o' instead of "of"
3-The title refers to a cheesy modern poem, but it is NOT included
4-Traci ends with a nice pun
5-If the theme is meteorological, you should shout-out to the weather girls -- Check
6-Her intro contains the title of a Van song (I Have Finally Come To Realize)

That's hittin' for the MP cycle, folks.  With an extra grand slam
breakfast thrown in for good measure.  Get your applications in to
be the next G.E.  The bar keeps a risin'.  BTW, *two* guest editions
is a new indoor record.

I love guest edited editions.  Easier than TV dinners for me,
and no tongue burns from the scalding hot cherry-apple crisp!

Welcome in to a new edition of MP!

In a response to an all-call for new ideas, and partly due to recent
weather, I feel obliged to comment on the state o' our atmosphere.

This sparked the realization that so many artists these days also
comment on the state o' our atmosphere (or theirs), and this is
what I've pulled out of my musical hat. While I have finally come to
realize that the Weather Girls were wrong, it is NOT "Raining Men"
(ow!, that could hurt!) it is in fact raining Purple, on Sundays, and
in November. (hmm, and John Bryant says we are below our average
for this year?!?) So, check it out and support your guest editor.

Grab your RainVote!! The storm's a comin'.

Have You Ever Seen the Rain by Creedence Clearwater Revival
==============================================================
Someone told me long ago there's a calm before the storm,
I know; its been comin for some time.
When its over, so they say, it'll rain a sunny day,
I know; shinin down like water.

I want to know, have you ever seen the rain?
I want to know, have you ever seen the rain
Comin down on a sunny day?

Yesterday, and days before, sun is cold and rain is hard,
I know; been that way for all my time.
'til forever, on it goes through the circle, fast and slow,
I know; it cant stop, I wonder.

I want to know, have you ever seen the rain?
I want to know, have you ever seen the rain
Comin down on a sunny day?   Yeah!

I want to know, have you ever seen the rain?
I want to know, have you ever seen the rain
Comin down on a sunny day?

Raining on Sunday by Keith Urban
==============================================================
It ticks just like a Timex
It never lets up on you
Who said life was easy
The job is never through
It'll run us 'til we're ragged
It'll harden our hearts
And love could use a day of rest
Before we both start falling apart

Pray that it's raining on Sunday
Stormin' like crazy
We'll hide under the covers all afternoon
Baby whatever comes Monday
Can take care of itself
'Cause we got better things that we could do
When it's raining on Sunday

Your love is like religion
A cross in Mexico
And your kiss is like the innocence
Of a prayer nailed to a door
Oh surrender in much sweeter
When we both let it go
Let the water wash our bodies clean
And love wash our souls

Pray that it's raining on Sunday
Stormin' like crazy
We'll hide under the covers all afternoon
Baby whatever comes Monday
Can take care of itself
'Cause we got better things that we could do
When it's raining on Sunday

Pray that it's raining on Sunday
Stormin' like crazy
We'll hide under the covers all afternoon
Baby whatever comes Monday
Can take care of itself
'Cause we got better things that we could do
When it's raining on Sunday
When it's raining on Sunday
When it's raining on Sunday
Let it rain

November Rain by Guns 'N Roses
==============================================================
When I look into your eyes
I can see a love restrained
But darlin' when I hold you
Don't you know I feel the same

'Cause nothin' lasts forever
And we both know hearts can change
And it's hard to hold a candle
In the cold November rain

We've been through this such a long long time
Just tryin' to kill the pain

But lovers always come and lovers always go
An no one's really sure who's lettin' go today
Walking away

If we could take the time
to lay it on the line
I could rest my head
Just knowin' that you were mine
All mine
So if you want to love me
then darlin' don't refrain
Or I'll just end up walkin'
In the cold November rain

Do you need some time...on your own
Do you need some time...all alone
Everybody needs some time...
on their own
Don't you know you need some time...all alone

I know it's hard to keep an open heart
When even friends seem out to harm you
But if you could heal a broken heart
Wouldn't time be out to charm you

Sometimes I need some time...on my
own
Sometimes I need some time...all alone
Everybody needs some time...
on their own
Don't you know you need some time...all alone

And when your fears subside
And shadows still remain
I know that you can love me
When there's no one left to blame
So never mind the darkness
We still can find a way
'Cause nothin' lasts forever
Even cold November rain

Don't ya think that you need somebody
Don't ya think that you need someone
Everybody needs somebody
You're not the only one
You're not the only one

Purple Rain by Prince
==============================================================
I never meant to cause you any sorrow
I never meant to cause you any pain
I only wanted one time to see you laughing
I only want to see you laughing in the purple rain
purple rain, purple rain
purple rain, purple rain
purple rain, purple rain
I only want to see you bathing in the purple rain

I never wanted to be your weekend lover
I only wanted to be some kind of friend
baby I could never steal you from another
it's such a shame our friendship had to end
purple rain, purple rain
purple rain, purple rain
purple rain, purple rain
I only want to see you underneath the purple rain
honey, I know, I know, I know times are changing
it's time we all reach out for something new, that means you too
you say you want a leader,
but you can't seem to make up your mind
I think you better close it
and let me guide you into the purple rain
purple rain, purple rain
purple rain, purple rain
purple rain, purple rain
I only want to see you, only want to see you
in the purple rain
