Modern Poetry Edition #75 {Yes Or No}

What's Up? How you livin'? Did you hear who won the Modern Poetry This Week?
"What the heck are you talkin' about?"
Dude, the MP, do you understand? Are you high or somethin'?
"No, man. No. No, no, I don't smoke it no more"
Nah, that ain't it. That didn't even get one vote.
       "Yeah?"
Yeah?
"Yeah, Yeah Yeah, Yeah yeah, Yeaah"
No fool. That was just short of winner-level votes also, Sorry Usher.
Note to future competitors 'Yeah, Yeah Yeah, Yeah yeah, Yeaah' does not
equal Poetry.
"You're right, of course, kind sir. But surely it was not that one that
has that line that goes, 'Obba, obba, serving the hypocrites'"
Now *You're* Right. It was not that one.
"I do really like that line. It sounds good. Even if it isn't really good
poetry. I say 'Obba Obba' quite regularly. People think it is Australian."
I could see that. Really though, are you sure you didn't hear who won the
Modern Poetry Award This Week?
       "Yes"
Who told ya?
       "No?"
YES.
       "Yes?"
Yes, indeedy.
Yes is your winner. In a roundabout kinda way. I believe it was that the voters
were might impressed with the

                In and around the lake
Mountains come out of the sky they
                Stand there

And it's not even a haiku -- I counted the syllables and everyt'ing.

Congrats to yes!

How-dee:

You might right now be reading the last Modern Poetry Edition of 2009.
Ha, the last one was 5 month ago -- what, I'm gonna put out two in two days?
Ummm, doubtful, Yes?  No?  Yes.

No.  Or Yes.  Or Yes Or No.  Hey, I wonder if there are any poems with Yes in the Title....
Or the Band, er Poet.  Or even No.

Yep, there are.  A sweet one from Jimmy Cliff.  Usher, Ringo, and the Jazz Odyssey that is YES.
And a little Robert Nesta Marley ("My feet is my only carriage" is strong, but is it enough to win the day?).

Let your vote count.  Enjoy tomorrow's blue moon -- that's the second full moon of December 2009!

Let Your Yeah Be Yeah (and Your No Be No) by Jimmy Cliff
======================================================

You keep telling me yes
But you don't mean it
You keep telling me no
And try to lean it
You're giving me buts and maybe
You know this will drive me crazy
Why can't you tell it like it is

Let your yeah be yeah and your no be no, now
Let your yeah be yeah and your no be no, now
Because I'm on my guard and I'm watching you from head to toe
You better let your yeah be yeah and your no be no

You wear a plastic smile
I know by your eyes
You speak with indefinite style
You're telling me lies
You've got to face reality
What is wrong with you and me
Why can't you free your honesty

Let your yeah be yeah and your no be no, now
Let your yeah be yeah and your no be no, now
Because I'm on my guard and I'm watching you from head to toe
You better let your yeah be yeah and your no be no

The No-No Song by Ringo Starr

======================================================

Huh-huh! Huh-huh
(Ah-ah-ah-ah-ah)
(Aye-aye-aye-aye)

A lady that I know just came from Columbia
She smiled because I did not understand
Then she held out some marijuana, uh huh
She said it was the best in all the land

And I said
"No, no, no, no, I don't smoke it no more
I'm tired of waking up on the floor
No, thank you, please, it only makes me sneeze
And then it makes it hard to find the door"

(ah-ah-aye-aye)

A woman that I know just came from Majorca, Spain
She smiled because I did not understand (Parazzi! Parazzi!) (Ole!)
Then she held out a ten pound bag of cocaine
She said it was the finest in the land

And I said
"No, no, no, no, I don't (sniff) it no more
I'm tired of waking up on the floor
No, thank you, please, it only makes me sneeze
And then it makes it hard to find the door"

(aye-aye-aye-aye)
(aye-aye-aye-aye)
(aye-aye-aye-aye)
(aye-aye-aye)

A man that I know just came from Nashville, Tennessee, oo, (Oh no!)
He smiled because I did not understand
Then he held out some moonshine whiskey, oh ho
He said it was the best in all the land (And he wasn't joking!)

And I said
"No, no, no, no, I don't drink it no more
I'm tired of waking up on the floor
No, thank you, please, it only makes me sneeze
And then it makes it hard to find the door"

Well, I said
"No, no, no, no, I can't take it no more
I'm tired of waking up on the floor
No, thank you, please, it only makes me sneeze
And then it makes it hard to find the door"

Hey yeh!

"I'll just have another drink, barman, have you got a large brandy?"

Yeah by Usher (w- Lil’ Jon and Ludacris)

[Usher:]
A Town's Down!

[Lil' Jon:]
Yeah, Ok! Lil' Jon!

[Usher:]
Yeah, Yeah Yeah, Yeah yeah, Yeaah
Yeah, Yeah yeah, Yeah yeah, Yeaah

[Usher (Verse 1):]
I'm in the club with my homies, tryna get a lil V-I, keep it down on the low key, cause you know how it feels.
I said shorty she was checkin up on me, from the game she was spittin my ear you'd think that she knew me.
So we decided to chill

Conversation got heavy, she had me feelin like she's ready to blow!
(Watch Out!, Watch Out!)
She saying come get me, come get me,
So I got up and followed her to the floor, she said baby lets go,
When I told her I said

[Usher (Chorus):]
Yeah (yeah) Shorty got down to come and get me
Yeah (yeah) I got so caught up I forgot she told me
Yeah (yeah) Cause if my girl new it'd be best to hold me
Yeah (yeah) Next thing I knew she was all up on me screaming:

Yeah, Yeah yeah, Yeah yeah, Yeaah
Yeah, Yeah yeah, Yeah yeah, Yeaah

[Usher (Verse 2):]
Shes all up in my head now, got me thinking that it might good idea to take her with me,
Cause she's ready to leave.
Now I gotta keep it real now, cause on a one-to-ten she's a certified twenty, and that just aint me.

Cause I do know if I take that chance just where is it gonna lead,
But what I do know is the way she dance makes shorty alright with me.
The way she getting low!
I'm like yeah, just work that out for me.
She asked for one more dance and I'm
Like yeah, how the hell am I supposed to leave?
And I said

[Chorus]

[Lil' Jon:]
Luda!

[Ludacris (Verse 3):]
Watch out!
My outfit's ridiculous, In the club lookin' so conspicuous.
And Rowl! These women al on the prowl, if you hold the head steady I'm a milk the cow.
Forget about the game I'm a spit the truth, I won't stop till I get em in they birthday suits.
So gimmie the rhythm and it'll be off with they clothes, then bend over to the front and touch your toes.
I left the jag and I took the roles, if they aint cutting then I put em on foot patrol.
How you like me now, when my pinky's valued over three hundred thousand,
Lets drank you the one to please, Ludacris fill cups like double d's.
Me and Ush once more and we leave em dead, we want a lady in the street but a freak in the bed to say

[Chorus]

[Ludacris (Bridge):]
Take that and rewind it back, Lil' Jon got the rhythm make ya booty go (clap)
Take that and rewind it back, Ursher got the voice make ya booty go (clap)
Take that and rewind it back, Ludacris got the flow make ya booty go (clap)
Take that and rewind it back, Lil' Jon got the rhythm make ya booty go (clap)

Roundabout by Yes

======================================================

I'll be the round about
The words will make you out 'n' out
I'll spend the day your way......
Call it morning driving thru the sound and
In and out the valley......

The muses dance and sing
They make the children really ring
I'll spend the day your way
Call it morning driving thru the sound and
In and out the valley.....

In and around the lake
Mountains come out of the sky
and they Stand there
One mile over we'll be there and we'll see you
Ten true summers we'll be there and
Laughing too
Twenty four before my love you'll see I'll be
There with you

I will remember you
Your silhouette will charge the view
Of distance atmosphere......
Call it morning driving thru the sound and
Even in the valley......

In and around the lake
Mountains come out of the sky
and they Stand there
One mile over we'll be there and we'll see you
Ten true summers we'll be there and
Laughing too ooo oo oo
Twenty four before my love you'll see I'll be
There with you

Along the drifting cloud the eagle searching
Down on the land
Catching the swirling wind the sailor sees
The rim of the land
The eagle's dancing wings create as weather
Spins out of hand

Go closer hold the land feel partly no more
Than grains of sand
We stand to lose all time a thousand answers
By in our hand
Next to your deeper fears we stand
Surrounded by million years

I'll be the roundabout
The words will make you out 'n' out
I'll be the roundabout
The words will make you out 'n' out........

In and around the lake
Mountains come out of the sky they
Stand there
Twenty four before my love and I'll be
There........

I'll be the roundabout
The words will make you out 'n' out
We spend the day your way
Call it morning driving thru the sound and
In and out the valley.... eh

In and around the lake
Mountains come out of the sky and they
Stand there
One mile over we'll be there and we'll see You
Ten true summers we'll be there and
Laughing too ooo
Twenty four before my love you'll see I'll be
There with you.....

No Woman No Cry by Bob Marley

======================================================

No woman, no cry
No woman, no cry
No woman, no cry
No woman, no cry

Said, said, Said I remember when we used to sit
In the government yard in Trenchtown
Oba, ob-serving the hypocrites
As they would mingle with the good people we meet
Good friends we have had, oh good friends we've lost,
along the way
In this bright future you can't forget your past
So dry your tears I say

No woman, no cry
No woman, no cry
Oh my Little sister, don't shed no tears
No woman, no cry

Said, said, said I remember when we used to sit
In the government yard in Trenchtown
And then Georgie would make the fire light
Log wood burnin' through the night
Then we would cook corn meal porridge
Of which I'll share with you

My feet is my only carriage
So I've got to push on through
But while I'm gone...

Everything's gonna be alright
Ev'rything's gonna be alright
Ev'rything's gonna be alright
Ev'rything's gonna be alright
Ev'rything's gonna be alright
Ev'rything's gonna be alright
Ev'rything's gonna be alright
Ev'rything's gonna be alright

No woman, no cry
No, no woman, no woman, no cry
Oh, little sister, don't shed no tears
No woman, no cry

No woman, no woman, no woman, no cry
No woman, no cry
Oh, my little darlyn no shed no tears
No woman, no cry, yeah
any sister no shed no tears, no women no cry

No woman no cry, no woman no cry
No woman no cry, no woman no cry

Say, say, said I remember when we used to sit
In a government yard in Trenchtown
Obba, obba, serving the hypocrites
As the would mingle with the good people we meet
Good friends we have, oh, good friends we've lost
Along the way
In this great future,
You can't forget your past
So dry your tears, I say

No woman no cry, no woman no cry
Little darling, don't shed no tears, no woman no cry
Say, say, said I remember when we used to sit
In the government yard in Trenchtown
And then Georgie would make the fire light
As it was, love would burn on through the night
Then we would cook cornmeal porridge
Of which I'll share with you
My fear is my only courage
So I've got to push on thru
Oh, while I'm gone

Everything 's gonna be alright, everything 's gonna be alright
Everything 's gonna be alright, everything 's gonna be alright
Everything 's gonna be alright, everything 's gonna be alright
Everything 's gonna be alright, everything 's gonna be alright
So woman no cry, no, no woman no cry
Oh, my little sister
Don't shed no tears
No woman no cry
I remember when we use to sit
In the government yard in Trenchtown
And then Georgie would make the fire lights
As it was, log would burnin' through the nights
Then we would cook cornmeal porridge
Of which I'll share with you
My fear is my only courage
So I've got to push on thru
Oh, while I'm gone
No woman no cry, no, no woman no cry
Oh, my little darlin'
Don't shed no tears
No woman no cry, No woman no cry

Oh my Little darlin', don't shed no tears
No woman no cry
Little sister, don't shed no tears
No woman no cry
