Modern Poetry Edition #23, (Eine kleine nachtpoetry)

Ha Ha Ha!  Very funny, all you merry pranksters who voted for Phish.  Too
bad that "Lengthwise" failed to meet the strict sensibilities of the staff,
amusing though it may be.

This week the HEMP'ers (Honorable Editors of the Modern Poetry) are proud to
recognize the first repeat winner in the short, modern history of the MP.
Paul Simon won the inaugural award with Slip Sliding Away, and this week he
takes the prize again with April, Come She Will.  ACSW is a charming poem.
Who knows how far Mr. Simon can go with this?  We've yet to see Sounds Of
Silence, Mrs. Robinson, or even the ever-popular 59th Street Bridge Song
(Feelin' Groovy), not to mention the 50 Ways.

Kermit was a close second with Bein' Green.  Wish we could've had two

Finally, we are disappointed that the Advanced Poetry Edition did not garner
the responses that the more accessible Einer-Kleiner edition did.  Who was
it said you can't go broke underestimating the tastes of the American public
(or was it intelligence)?

Maybe, due to popular demand, Weird Al will be making an appearance soon.

Modern Poetry #23 {Eine kleine nachtpoetry}
Lengthwise - Phish
Bein' Green - Kermit (as sung by Van The Man)
Low Rider - War
Baba O'Riley - The Who
**April, Come She Will - Paul Simon

**Winner of MPulitzer

Jewel, Arlo, Buffet, Humpty-Hump, and Vanilla Ice,
today's Frost, Keats, E.A. Robinson, cummings, and
Dickinson? May-be!

Since MP readers in the last few editions have shown

Here's a little night poetry to see you through.  Note how nice and short
and clear and direct they are.

No analysis on these, please.  Just enjoy and vote for one of 'em.  I think
this is an especially hard choice, so maybe you should read 'em twice.

Lengthwise - Phish
============================== ============================== ====
When you're there, I sleep lengthwise, And when you're gone
I sleep diagonal in my bed

When you're there, I sleep lengthwise, And when you're gone
I sleep diagonal in my bed

When you're there, I sleep lengthwise, And when you're gone
I sleep diagonal in my bed

Bein' Green (w/b) Joe Raposo - Kermit (as sung by Van Morrison)
============================== ============================== ====
It's not easy bein' green, Having to spend each day the color of the leaves
When I think it could be nicer bein' red or yellow or gold
Or something much more colorful like that

It's not easy bein' green.  It seems you blend in with so many other ordinary things
And people tend to pass you by, 'Cause you're not standing out like flashy sparkles
On the water or stars in the sky

But green is the color of spring.  And green can be cool and friendly like
And green can be big like an ocean Or important like a mountain or
tall like a tree

When green is all there is to be, It could make you wonder why
But why wonder, why wonder?  I am green and it'll do fine, it's beautiful
And I think it's what I want to be

Low Rider - War
============================== ============================== =========
All my friends know the low rider.
The low rider is a little higher.
The low rider drives a little slower.
Low rider, is a real goer.

Low rider knows every street, yeah.
Low rider, is the one to meet, yeah.
Low rider don't use no gas now.
The low rider don't drive too fast

Take a little trip, take a little trip.  Take a little trip and see.
Take a little trip, take a little trip.  Take a little trip with me.

Baba O'Riley  - The Who
============================== ============================== =========
Out here in the fields, I fight for my meals.  I get my back into my living.
I don't need to fight, To prove I'm right.  I don't need to be forgiven.

Don't cry, Don't raise your eye, It's only teenage wasteland

Sally ,take my hand.  Travel south crossland.  Put out the fire.
Don't look past my shoulder

The exodus is here.  The happy ones are near.  Let's get together
Before we get much older

Teenage wasteland.  It's only teenage wasteland.  Teenage wasteland
Oh, oh.  Teenage wasteland.  They're all wasted!

April Come She Will - Paul Simon
============================== ============================== =========
April come she will, When streams are ripe and swelled with rain
May she will stay, Resting in my arms again

June she'll change her tune, In restless walks she'll prowl the night
July she will fly, And give no warning of her flight

August die she must, The autumn winds blow chilly and cold
September I'll remember, A love once new has now grown old
